why bother?
The language of literary works gives forth something different with each reading. But unpredictability does not mean total relativism. Instead, it highlights the persistence with which writers keep coming back to fundamental problems, family vs country, wife vs girlfriend. being alive vs being dead.
I Could have quoted the whole essay, but thats just not feasible.
We write because there is no exit, no escape from the human enterprise(s) that surround us. Those who read and write (a distinct trait) have a unique sense of community foreign to those not bonded. The text is our community, our favored mode of communication. As a result of today's 'digital age' where communication is impersonal, splintered and, I would say, largely superficial, those who still adhere to the text are resigned as "intelligentsia", of course negatively connotated. The title we with 'textuals' should never accept.
Theres more to be said with this but i'm quite hungry at the moment. to eat, that is.
If having a blog was outlawed, then all outlaws would be bloggers. a fallacy?
